Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada News Release Regarding Haiti

Haiti Disaster Relief

The Evangelical Missionary Church of Canada has been providing relief, development and compassionate care in Haiti for many years.

A medical team of seven nurses arrived yesterday afternoon in Port au Prince, with the intent of providing medical care and support in several Northern Haitian communities.

We received news this morning that one of our volunteer team members was killed in the collapse of a guest house in Port au Prince during the sudden and devastating earthquake that struck Haiti yesterday.

We are deeply saddened by this loss, and wish to express our sincere sympathy to her family. We also extend our sympathy to the families of other foreign relief workers injured or missing and to the people of Haiti affected by this disaster. We have asked our EMCC community to pray and to give generously to the relief effort.

For those churches and individuals that want to respond with donations for the relief effort please send cheques to: Haiti Disaster Relief, 130 Fergus Ave., Kitchener ON N2A 2H2, or donate online at www.emcc.ca. We will decide on where to respond with donations as information becomes clear.

We would ask all of our churches to make a special call for prayer for our team members and their families, and for our Haitian churches in Haiti and in Canada. Beyond our connections, please include in your prayers the many other agencies and people affected by this tragedy.
