The Pastoral Leadership Institute (PLI) is designed for the second-career individual who senses God's call to vocational Christian ministry.
PLI 's "high tech" academic curriculum consists of sixteen internet courses in Bible, theology and practical ministry. Students apply themselves in a self-study process and then synthesize their study in a weekly online chat with peers and a PLI eProf. Completing the first level of courses qualifies students for credentials in the Missionary Church, and completing the second level satisfies the educational requirements for ordination.
Although courses are challenging (somewhere between a bachelors and masters degree in difficulty) and the eProfs excellent, PLI distinguishes itself from other online schools with its "high touch" local church internship - an intensive, broad and deep hands-on ministry experience supervised by a coach (usually the student's pastor) that runs concurrently and in conjunction with academic studies. Each student applies what is learned in the classroom to real ministry in a variety of experiences.
For the person seeking to answer God's call to vocational Christian ministry, PLI offers:
- Convenience
- Focus
- Practicality
- Affordability
In the following training options:
- Conventional local church pastorate (PLI)
- Missional disciple-making leadership (mPLI)
- Spanish PLI (ILP)
- J.I.T. (Just-In-Time) training (coming in 2011)
- Lay leadership electives
